The main objective of ELGO-DIMITRA is the development and support of actions aimed at the modernization and development of the country’s agricultural sector, the improvement of production processes, the strengthening of competitiveness, the certification of quality agricultural products & food, the establishment and certification of correct agricultural practices and the controls in the milk and meat production-distribution chain in the country. The Veterinary Research Institute is one of the 11 Institutes of the General Directorate of Agricultural Research of ELGO-DIMITRA. The Institute conducts research on: Improving animal production, Utilization of domestic genetic resources, Protection of public health, Animal health and prevention, Improvement of animal reproductive performance with conventional and biotechnological methods, Development of new agricultural breeding systems animals, Environmental Protection, Animal Welfare and quality food production, Hygiene, food quality and safety.
