The UNION OF AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES OF NAXOS was founded in 1926 and, from then until today, it plays a leading role in developing the agricultural production and the economy of the area, while at the same time the Union supports, in practice and in many ways, the farmer.
Naxos Graviera is one of the most important products of the Union. It is certified as a Product of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).
The Union of Naxos receives cow’s, sheep’s and goat’s milk from animals raised exclusively in Naxos. The Union’s cheese-making unit collects milk in stations equipped with a cooling system. The milk is collected from special transport barrels twice a day. Cheese making is done within 8 hours of receipt to ensure milk quality and safe product production. Also, controlled storage of milk ensures its good quality and shelf life.
